A plant based diet is certainly becoming a buzz word, but what does it really mean? Well, the definition is not precise: To some it may mean a strict vegetarian (vegan) diet, that contains absolutely NO animal products while to others it may take the form of a semi-vegetarian diet. The definition is very broad and allows for your own personal spin- while at its core, it is simply a diet that emphasizes whole plant foods, such as beans, vegetables, fruits, whole grains, nuts and seeds. So you don’t have to commit to being a strict vegetarian for life to gain the benefits of a powerful plant based diet – anyone can do it. However, the more whole plant foods you include in your diet, the more health benefits you’ll probably gain.
